Court remands man over sexual abuse

A 39-YEAR-OLD man charged with persistent sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl was remanded by Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Tracy Ganaii on Friday.
The accused, from Central, was charged with one count of persistent sexual abuse of a minor at 2nd Block, 8-Mile, Port Moresby.
It was alleged that the abuse started on Feb 1, 2018, when the girl was 13-years-old and continued until May 17, 2020.
The victim is the accused’s adopted daughter.
According to a police statement of facts, the accused started abusing the victim after when his wife took their two biological daughters and left.
The first time the accused was alleged to have abused the victim, he threatened her not to tell anyone as they would both go to jail.
The victim said she was abused on numerous occasions afterwards.
On June 2, relatives suspected something was wrong and question her and she told them about her abuse.
The matter was then reported to police and the accused was arrested on June 15.
He was questioned by police regarding the allegations and admitted to committing the offences over the two-year period.
He was charged and detained at the Boroko police station cell.
The case was adjourned to July 27 for mention.

  • He should be jailed on the next hearing. This is typical child abuse, the law must come down strict on such abuse because this is damaging her future. She will be affected mentally and it is not a very healthy way to live an abusive life. Child abuse office must hear this please and assist the child.

    It’d be better if the mother was also located and charged too for deserting the child! she wouldn’t have gone through the ordeal if the mother had taken her along too!!
