Court to decide on fate of NHC Gordon tenants next year

THE National Court will decide in February the future of about 100 residents of the National Housing Corporation flats in Gordon, Port Moresby.
Justice Ere Kariko will make a ruling on February 11 on the case brought by the residents who claimed that they were not informed by the NHC when it sold the flats to two parties for development purposes.
The residents led by George Kakas are seeking redress on the sale of the flats in 2008 by the NHC without letting the tenants know about it.
In January 2007 the residents had learnt of an attempt by the NHC to sell the Gordon flats.
They alleged that the sale was not advertised and they were not notified of the proposed sale.
In or about February 2008, they learned that the flats had been transferred to the two parties.
The residents filed a case on June 30, 2008, challenging the sale.
