Court to rule on swearing case

FOUR students who were arrested and charged by Madang police earlier this year for allegedly swearing at local police officers in a Tiktok video have been served their files after it was tendered in the Madang District Court yesterday.
Madang police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the suspects’ court files were completed by officers from the criminal investigation division.
According to the prosecution, a response to their submission would be made on Friday when the court would makes a ruling on whether there is enough evidence to commit the four Wilfrey Geno, Morris Geno, Edward Kurame and Wesley Mark to stand trial in the National Court. The students were charged under section 21 (2) of the Cyber Crime Code.
According to police, the four made a Tiktok video and allegedly used insulting words against Madang policemen and then posted it on social media.
The video was shared on several social media sites and eventually viewed by police officers.
On May 15, the students were arrested and charged with the offence and were later released on police bail.
In other news, acting Supt Rubiang said two Correctional Services officers were served copies of their court files in relation to charges of aiding prisoners to escape.
