WITH a decreasing number of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases reported last month, no new case was reported on Sunday, according to the Covid-19 National Control Centre (NCC).
However, the centre warned against dropping the guard as numbers were building up in Australia and Indonesia.
From NCC updates, no new case was reported in PNG on Dec 26 and 27, as well and no death was recorded for more than 20 days except one on Christmas Day.
Does this mean that there is low community transmission of the Covid-19, or, is it because it is a holiday period and the provincial health authorities (PHAs) are not reporting the cases?
The National was seeking answers for some of those questions from the NCC since last week without success.
Apart from the distribution of the dashboard, there were no updates on the Covid-19 situation despite warnings that a surge in Omicron and Delta variants was expected next month.
As of Sunday, the total reported cases in PNG was 36,192 of which 35,525 had recovered, 78 were diagnosed in the last 14 days and 590 deaths.
Last month, 991 new cases were reported and the numbers were high at the beginning of the month but decreased in the middle and towards the end.
So far this year, only two cases were recorded.
In terms of vaccination, as of las Friday, around 12 per cent of the target population of 1.8 million were vaccinated.
The total vaccine doses administered were 384,043 of which 286,837 were those who had received at least one dose and 224,073 were fully vaccinated.
