THE Covid-19 vaccine will be an essential part of the country’s way to control the spread of the infection as is being proved in other countries, an official says.
Medical Society of PNG president Prof Nakapi Tefuarani in a statement on the immunisation and Covid-19 vaccine, said they supported the Health Department, World Health Organisation (WHO) and the committee in charge of the vaccines.
“The vaccines for PNG are safe and highly effective,” he said.
“It is essential that doctors and other health professionals understand the facts and the science – not be influenced by incorrect information on social media.
“Immunisation is an essential part of preventative healthcare in Papua New Guinea and other countries.
“Vaccines against measles, polio, pertussis, tetanus, diphtheria and Haemophilus mean that such infections, which have killed millions of children globally, and thousands of children in PNG each year, are uncommon diseases.”
