Cowboys star sees potential in youth

QUEENSLAND Origin and Cowboys great Brent Tate, pictured, had fun teaching young fans from the Life PNG Care the basics of kicking and catching at a recent clinic.
Seven PNG Hunters and Trukai Industries staff accompanied the 35-year-old at that rugby league clinic organised by Trukai at the National Football Stadium last Thursday. After seeing the children interest in rugby, Tate said it is good to teach rugby league skills to children at an early age (10-13 years) so they could grow up with the passion and love for the sport. His main message to the children was, “make sacrifices to be the rugby league player you want to be”.
“I saw that some of these kids have the skills to go on and be good footballers but they needs a development programme help them along,” Tate said.  The former Australian representative returned home with Trukai Industries management on the maiden Air Niugini direct flight from Port Moresby to Townsville last Friday. Tate’s visit, his fourth to PNG, was not just to promote Trukai but also to visit the NFS for a tour of the facilities there.
He was at NFS speaking with PNG Hunters players, before lending his support to charity groups Life Care PNG and City Mission, where he engaged with children who are bound to be avid Cowboys supporters.
