CITY Pharmacy Ltd (CPL) Group yesterday donated K4,000 worth of personal protective equipment to the Port Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) in preparation for its season kick-off tomorrow.
CPL Group consultant Sudhir Guru said the equipment promoted safety in the “new normal” of sports following the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The ‘new normal’ in PNG is much better than that of those in other parts of the world,” he said.
“But even though PNG is in a much better place today, you can’t let your guard down, especially with rugby league and other contact sports, you have to follow the Covid-19 guidelines.
“Under the ‘new normal’, games will prevail but you have to see that the safety precautions are in place with sanitation equipment, masks and infrared thermometers, which are part of the guidelines to run the competition.
“We’ll see how we go and if need be, will stand by POMRFL to ensure how best we can be safe and give support where we can.”
POMRFL chairman Dr James Naipao said the donation was a timely gesture heading into the competition’s 71st season.
“We’ve been around PNG for 70 years, playing the competition in the country,” he said.
“We felt that if we stayed behind because of Covid-19, the virus would be victorious.
“We can’t let this thing play a big part in trying to stop our normal process of doing business and I think its best we follow the ‘new normal’.”
