CRICKET Papua New Guinea (CPNG) launched a two-day Village Premier League tournament which will be held at Amini Park in Port Moresby from Saturday, with K10,000 in prize money on offer.
CPNG general manager Tony Naidu said national men’s and Under-19 team members would also compete in the eight-team 10-over tournament.
He urged all teams to compete hard as the tournament was part of preparations for the national sides, including the U19s who would be competing in next year’s World Cup in the West Indies.
“People from the cricHQ are aware of this tournament,” Naidu said of the digital platform which combines competition management and administration software with live-scoring and statistics for cricket clubs.
“General manager Grant Elliott is happy that CPNG is able to host this tournament.
“All the matches will be streamed live. We have more than 250,000 followers on social media.
“These followers are not only from PNG, but around the world and I’m sure some of them will tune in to watch matches.
“So we want all teams to be competitive, play by the rules, play fair and play some high-quality cricket.
“This is not a community tournament.
“Teams must take it seriously and just compete as best as you can.”
Naidu said strict Coronavirus protocol would be applied.
The teams are Coasters Kings, Coasters Lions Royals, Raukele Royal Challengers, Curries Indians, Northern Sunrisers, KCC Capitals, Pari Knight Riders and United Super Kings.
