Usino-Bundi MP Jimmy Uguro has been challenged to have the Ramu Agri Credit Scheme abolished since it was not benefiting the people.
Bundi representative John Kari made the call on Friday during Uguro’s first visit to the district’s Walium government station.
Kari said the credit scheme, operated by Ramu Agri Industries Limited, was not supporting development in the district.
Fred Maliupa, a candidate who contested the Usino-Bundi seat along with Uguro, said time for politics was over and differences should be put aside and all parties should work together to develop the district.
“Now is the time to move on.  I can’t say change is the right word to use but let’s use the word progress for Usino-Bundi,” Maliupa said.
Usino community leader Jacob Segu said Usino-Bundi people wanted to see impact projects. “Projects like power supply from Ramu Sugar to here and not buying coffins for haus krais and bride price,” he said.
Uguro assured the people the district would continue with the school fee assistance scheme started by under the former MP.
“I was a teacher and I believe in brain power so we will continue with the school fee subsidy scheme.”
Uguro said he liaised with PNG Power Ltd to have power connected to Saussi and Kesewai so people living along the highway could benefit from it.
“I want you to have power supply so that someone in a village can connect an electric jug to a power point and drink coffee,” he said.
Uguro was sworn in as the district development authority board chairman along with Bundi LLG president Victor Managi, Matilda Barnabas as women representative and Lucas Kuniata as church representative.
