BOROKO Motors have renewed their partnership with Cricket PNG for another 12 months, sponsoring the country’s biggest domestic cricket competition.
Dealer principal Tony Barlow said they were happy to sponsor the competition for a fifth year through their brand Isuzu and continue grow the code locally.
The 2024 Isuzu T20 Smash competition is set to bat off this weekend at the Amini Park in Port Moresby.
“We’ve been associated with this T20 smash for five years and it’s been a resounding success in our books but also a major contribution to the development of cricket in PNG,” Barlow said.
He said supporting this tournament helped prepare the national teams ahead of any international tour, especially PNG Barramundis’ preparations towards the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in USA and West Indies later this year.
Meanwhile, CPNG chief executive Richard Done said this competition was a great avenue to groom cricketers for international matches.
“The Isuzu T20 Smash is a great lead-up for our elite cricketers who will proudly represent PNG internationally, with the Barras attending the 20-team ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies, our Siales U19 Women’s team playing in Bali, Indonesia and Garamuts U19 men’s team competing in Apia, Samoa, all within the first half of 2024,” Done said.
“The first draft of players in each men’s and women’s teams has been completed with five Barramundis and four Garamuts players drafted into their respective men’s teams, and five Lewas and four Siales drafted into the women’s teams.”
Done said there were 13 players in each of the teams.
He said a second draft, open to the public, would allow four more players to be included in each of the men’s teams, and three players in each of the women’s teams.
