Cricket targets 150,000 more children

THE Bank South Pacific School Kriket 2014 got off to a flying start last Friday with the sponsors and Cricket PNG launching the programme at Hohola Demonstration School, in Port Moresby. 

Last year the programme reached 171,500 children in 297 schools across Papua New Guinea.

It now plans to introduce it to 150,000 more children this year.

The School Kriket programme has been altered this year to introduce the School Kriket Blast while focusing on expanding and strengthening programmes in 10 provinces.

The Blast is an inter-school softball competition that involves schools, who have take part in the School Kriket programme and has a target of 108 competitions, 27 carnivals, and 13,000 participants across the country. 

Bank deputy general manager retail banking, Kili Tambua said the programme was not just about cricket – it was about encouraging children to lead an active, healthy lifestyle and instil values like respect and team work.

Cricket PNG general manager Greg Campbell they were was optimistic the programme was creating a positive image and impact in the lives of school children.
