TWO armed robberies on separate days in Lae, Morobe, indicated similar methods of operation.
Acting Lae metropolitan commander Snr Insp James Luan said the armed holdups last Saturday and on Monday comprised a large number of criminals who used PMVs to make their getaways.
Luan said last Saturday, eight armed men entered a service station at the Snack Bar area and made off with a substantial amount of cash.
He said police were looking at the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to try identify the suspects.
Between 9am and 9.30am on Monday at the Lae Top Town area, another armed robbery was carried out where a shop lost its electronic items worth more than K30,000.
According to Luan, the criminals were dressed in uniforms belonging to secondary schools in Lae and committed the crime.
“After restraining the security guards at the main entrance, the criminals went into the shop and stole laptops, cameras, mobile phones and other electronic items and made off in a 15-seater bus,” he said.
No cash money was stolen.
“Police have identified some of the suspects from the CCTV footage.
We now know where they live and we will arrest them,” Luan said.
He said the timing in both robberies was well planned and executed.
Therefore, he warned criminals that police would use lethal force if and when necessary.
