PORT Moresby’s Capital Rugby Union (CRU) has ended its three weeks of preseason games yesterday at the Bava Park in Port Moresby.
“It’s been a lot of work in the off-season, not just for the teams but also the administration,” president Kori Chan told The National.
“The three weekends of preseason now has come to an end. Proper season is set for April 27 (Saturday).
“This year teams will play two rounds of matches so every team will play each other twice and that takes us to 16 weeks.
“We going to have three weeks of finals. The finals will be on the independence weekend and the grand final will be played on Saturday.
“In terms of the clubs, I’ve been working hard in getting every club major sponsors. I am really proud to announce that every club will have a major sponsor for this year, this helps raise the profile of each clubs.”
Chan said they were expecting more improvement in rugby union following a partnership between CRU and Queensland Rugby Union Referee Association.
The partnership will deliver coaching and player and junior development clinics.
Chan said the union would host a standalone women’s competition this year at the Port Moresby International School sports ground, while the men’s games would be at Bava Park.
