CS minister wants to develop new policies

CORRECTIONAL Service (CS) Minister Chris Nangoi says more discussions and dialogue will take place with the Government on developing policies to improve the services.
Nangoi made the remarks yesterday when taking over from outgoing Minister Roy Biyama.
“We cannot change the structure but we can only deal with the policies and more will be done within the department this year to create new policies,” Nangoi said.
CS acting commissioner Stephen Pokanis said it was a long journey with Biyama and they looked forward to working with Nangoi.
Assistance commissioner (Southern Region) Henry Wawik told Nangoi that a permanent commissioner needed to be appointed soon.
“Consistency is needed and the appointment must be within the rank and file, someone who knows already the work and can do it,” Wawik said.
Deputy chief of operations Denise Piandi said state allocations and resources tended to be focused on police and defence sectors but Correctional Services were also vital for society to function well.
“Police and Defence get a bigger slice of the budget but we are also a crucial part of the service to the national.”
The formal parade of the new minister and former minister will be held next week following disciplinary protocols.
