University of Papua New Guinea students from Morobe and those living in Port Moresby celebrated their provincial day on Saturday.

The students and the people of the province’s nine districts gathered to showcase and celebrate their unique cultures through their traditional singsings, dances and other activities.

University of Papua New Guinea Morobe Students Union president Andrew Zuhukepe said the event was to unite the people of Morobe by participating in cultural activities.

Zuhukepe said the funds raised from the event would go towards an awareness campaign to help curb school fights in Lae and the province during their holiday this year.

“Many times the students are injured or die because of school fights and we want to address that through awareness in the province,” he said.

“We want to tell the students that school fights will not do any good in their lives.

“The funds we raise from the event will go towards backing the awareness campaign in the province.”

The NCD government gave K10,000 to support the association in hosting the event. Zuhukepe thanked the NCD government and those that supported the event.
