PNG Customs is a very important player in the supply chain of the country, International Container Services Inc (ICTSI) South Pacific chief executive officer Robert Maxwell says.
Commenting on ongoing initiatives between PNG customs and ICTSI, Maxwell said customs protect domestic industry and consumers by controlling smuggling and prohibited items entering the country.
“As a key partner of us, we have several ongoing initiatives that will make Customs systems to interface with our own systems,” he told The National.
“This would in return bring efficiencies to the supply chain by transitioning to a digital and paperless supply chain, as we see today in key developed markets.
“ICTSI South Pacific mission in PNG is to strive for best-in-class operations in our terminals to support a much more efficient supply chain in the country.
“A good example of such commitment is our strong investment in equipment in 2022, when we expect to receive the first-in-country two ship-to-shore cranes in Lae Tidal Basin by end of this year.
“This should double our operational efficiency in Lae by being able to load and discharge containers much safer and faster.”
