Cutting funds a mistake

Letters

AFTER registering more than 100 days in office, the 8th Prime Minister of PNG now comes up with his first decision to cut 20% off from DSIP & PSIP funds to support his supplementary budget for 2020.
I believe this is a reckless decision by this government.
How can you take back PNG when you cut those funds that will have effect on the provinces and their districts?
When there is a shortfall in the national budget, the 21 provinces will utilise their DSIP & PSIP funds to cater for needy services in their respective districts and provinces.
Are there any other areas that you may cut percentages from rather than DSIP & PSIP funds?
Another big question is the 2020 academic year, especially for the suffering parents. Are you capable enough to cater for all the schools and institutions in 2020 with free Education just as what the previous government did?
I don’t think so.
It is not yet a year and through observation, you are already exhausted, confused and eventually all the projects started by the previous O’Neill government will fall apart.
A very good example is the Lae-Nadzab four-lane road.
The previous government, with manageable loan debts, had projects and services delivered around the country because it was a people mandated government and was there to deliver to the people.
If your knife is sharp enough, then go ahead and operate the pig, it’s already on the table.

  • Too much misuse.
    Abolish the entire DSIP/PSIP.
    It is called sacrifice.
Tough times require tough decisions and sacrifices.
