CYBER threats will be everywhere and as technology continues to grow, so will the threats and companies warned to implement information technology (IT) measures, Datec PNG Limited general manager training and education Ravichandran Chandran says.
Ravichandran warned that companies must evaluate, direct and monitor (IT governance) their systems if they are not aligned with the IT requirements of organisation, industry, regulatory and business compliances.
“It’s not easy to identify the cybercriminal (but) we can protect the organisations from cyber-attacks through proactive practices,” he said.
“If not, then it is easy for the cybercriminals.
“Cyber-attacks are common. Every organisation is targeted by cybercriminals. Each company should have an IT policy, generally called an IT governance.”
Steps required to protect the organisations from cyber threats include:

  • ORGANISATION’S vision and mission statements should align with strategy;
  • IT framework: organisations should adopt best practices (industry standards) (IT Framework, IT Policy and process) and those practices should align with organisations strategy; and,
  • COMPLIANCE’S with requirements – organisational, industry, regulatory and business compliance.

Ravichandran said protecting organisations from cyber threats required a multi-pronged approach involving technical and human-centered measures.
