MEMBERS of the Lae Cycling Association have been conducting awareness on family planning and reproductive health in villages.
They are mostly unemployed youths and students.
They carry out awareness on family planning, sexual reproductive health and on general health issues in villages around Lae and districts in Morobe.
It is in collaboration with the provincial family health programme. They rode on bicycles to reach the communities in the city, Buhalu village in Labuta, Nawaeb district, and Bulolo.
Last weekend, 30 travelled to Mumeng and Mapos in Buang, Bulolo.
President Champ Iriso said the awareness was their own initiative which they funded.
“The awareness programme keeps the youths occupied through cycling,” he said.
“It drives them away from negative activities that most young people are currently involved in. We cycle and fundraise at the same time to support the association.
“It is like rehabilitating the youths. It makes them to see the reality of life by getting involved in such awareness.
They can also make wise decisions and plan their families.
The awareness programme has a great impact on the youths.”
The association has 105 members and was formed in March.
