DOUBLES by halfback Sebastian Gaudi and winger Josh Erico helped Central Dabaris beat Kimbe Cutters 30-12 in round 10 of the Digicel Cup at Port Moresby’s Oil Search National Football Stadium yesterday.
The game was in the balance with the Dabaris leading 10-6 at halftime.
But a big second-half performance by the Central government-sponsored hosts saw them score four unanswered tries to seal the win.
It was the Dabaris’ first win under new coach Eddie Aila. The former Papua New Guinea Kumul took over from Gairo Pepena a fortnight ago.
“I think our players have built trust in each other over the past few games,” Aila said.
“In this game, everyone put trust in their roles and they delivered which won us the game.”
The Dabaris scored first through Erico, however, Gaudi missed the conversion.
The Cutters hit back through fullback Jah Hogan who scored a converted try in the 18th minute to give the visitors a 6-4 lead.
But the Dabaris reclaimed the lead on the stroke of halftime when fullback Morea Morea Jr scored under the uprights. A successful conversion by Gaudi made it 10-6 at the break.
The second half was all the Dabaris as Gaudi scored his tries, Erico completed his double and Andrew Solo bagged a four-pointer in the four-try haul. Gaudi only converted two of the four second-half tries.
The Cutters only managed to score a consolation try through interchange hooker Jethro John and Jacob Levi converted the four-pointer.
The Dabaris will face Mt Hagen Eagles in the final round of the regular season this weekend.
