Dabaris ready to face Gulf Isou in final trial match

THE Central Dabaris are ready to face Gulf Isou in their final trial match at Sir John Guise Stadium on Sunday.
Isou’s trial matches against the Port Moresby Vipers last week were a disaster as their Team One and Team Two lost 0-26 and 0-18 respectively.
But for the Dabaris, their 2021 Digicel Cup campaign looks promising – given last week’s result which saw Dabaris Blue and Dabaris Red defeating defending champions Hela Wigmen’s Team One and Team Two 10-4 and 10-8 respectively in trial matches at Sir John Guise Stadium.
Coach Gairo Pepena told The National on Tuesday that his men would use the match against Isou to correct their errors from last week. “I am impressed with the win over Wigmen last week,” he said.
“But there are still a lot of areas that we need to improve on.
“One area that I will look at is our defensive structure. We will need to get that right this time, so I will assess the boys in that match.
“Our aim is to start well in round one of the upcoming Digicel Cup season, so the trial against Isou is an opportunity for us to make adjustments. We will also use of the match to try and get our attacking combinations right.
“Some of the players are new to each other, so it is important that they get used to each other’s style of play.”
Meanwhile, the Dabaris have already finalised their 25-man squad but are awaiting the board’s approval.
