THE bid for a Central province team in the Digicel Cup has already begun as board members of the Central Dabaris visited the Aroma Coast to raise awareness and interest in the new franchise.
At the Pelegai rugby oval last Friday, Dabaris chairman Keith Iduhu and coach Chris Enara, pictured, urged the talents from Aroma to come out and start preparing for what is planned to be a milestone for the province in terms of rugby league — if their bid is successful.
“The Central Dabaris bid team and I will be coming to these villages over the next few months to witness some great football and expose talents,” Iduhu said.
“I believe there is a vast talent in the villages of Central province including the Aroma coast.
“It’s my role to ignite the passion and drive, using PNG Rugby Football League affiliates such as Aroma Coast Rugby Football League as a supporting competitions for the Dabaris.
“We are hoping that at the end of this year the PNGRFL gives us the green light to take a team into next year’s Digicel Cup.
“We know for sure that our fans will come from around the province to watch us. The Dabaris will be the first team to represent Central.
“I believe we can do it. Rugby league is an incredible sport. It’s not only the players that will wear the jersey and take the field, it’s an opportunity for the whole community to come together and speak as one and be unified.
“It’s an opportunity to show the country how we play rugby league so I want to challenge our young men to take the field and concentrate on this opportunity,” Iduhu said.
Enara, a renowned rugby league coach and business man from Aroma, said the first trip to Aroma by the Dabaris bid team would make a difference.
He said the existence of the Dabari would see more trips to Aroma to survey the talent from that area as well other parts of the province.
“Once you are affiliated to PNGRFL through Southern Confederate you must display potential,”Enara said.
Enara, a former Port Moresvy Vipers, said the coming of the Dabaris would see all PNGRFL affiliates in the province be considered as the catchement area for the new Digicel Cup franchise.
