THE Papua New Guinea darts team won 14 medals to top the Pacific region in the recently-completed Pacific Cup darts tournament in Vanutau.
PNG team manager Goasa Geita said that the results were overwhelming.
“We have put PNG on the map in the Pacific region at this inaugural dart tournament and I am very pleased with the results from the national team comprised of some very promising young players who performed exceptionally,” Geita said.
“The feeling is so great and awesome right now as we were the outright winners of the Pacific darts tournament.”
PNG men’s captain Molean Kilapat and women’s team captain Joan Lawes expressed similar sentiments on the team’s performance. The national team won seven gold medals in the men’s and the same number in the women’s division.
PNG fielded two teams after the late withdrawal of Fiji and late inclusion of Solomon Island in the second round of the tournament.
The team returned home on Wednesday to a rousing welcome at the Jackson’s Airport by the darts officials and family members.
