EIGHT PNG DataCo cable landing stations in the country are currently under construction and will be complete by the end of the year, managing director Paul Komboi says.
Komboi said the townships where the landing stations were being constructed were Kokopo, Kerema, Daru, Vanimo, Wewak, Kavieng, Lorengau and Arawa.
He said Port Moresby, Alotau, Popondetta and Madang cable landing stations were completed. The cable landing stations are part of the modern national transmission network being built by the government’s representative and PNG DataCo Ltd.
The landing stations when completed will house the Kumul submarine cable network (KSCN) reaching each provincial capital and branching out to users through retail providers. This cable landing stations will ensure data traffic from international connectivity through Coral Sea submarine cable (CS2) is distributed through domestic network, empowering telecommunication companies, internet services providers (ISPs) and new players to extend their products and services to the people.
Komboi said DataCo’s mission was to improve and expand affordable access to all the people of PNG through the development of this network.
“PNG DataCo Ltd is confident the network, when completed, will provide the cheapest, faster and most reliable broadband internet services,” Komboi said.
“The new submarine cable network means that we can now extend broadband services on a better and stable network out to townships that we could only reach by our limited satellite and microwave networks.
“The populace will enjoy fast internet and stable connectivity,” he said.
