DAULO MP Ron Ganarafo has called on the government to rebuild the Ramu Bridge in Madang that was destroyed by floods several years ago.

Ganarafo said in Parliament yesterday that the bridge, which was built during the colonial era, was the only link from Madang town to the  Usino and Bundi areas.

He asked if the government planned to rebuild the bridge so that the local people could have easier access to government services and markets in Madang.

Madang Governor Jim Kas added that the people now used a new bridge and road built by the developer of the Ramu Nickel mine MCC connecting Kurumbukari and Usino.

Works Minister Francis Awesa said his department would consider rebuilding the bridge to connect Brahman Catholic station and Bundi.

He said the church has been assisting the government in development work such as health and education and it was time for the government to provide services to the district.

Anglimp South Waghi MP Joe Koim also asked if the government could fix the Kindeng to Konopena and Anglimp to North Waghi road that was recently washed away.

The minister said he would also look into it.
