OK Five Brothers beat Hilltops 6-0 in the National Capital District Eastern Highlands Rugby League ID24 Shield at the Taurama Barracks Oval in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Joe David scored the winner two minutes from full time after Brothers five-eighth John Dami produced an inside pass for the winger to cross over for a converted try.
It was a tight contest which saw both teams failing to post points in the first half.
Brothers’ Chris Hasu, Jack Simon, Issac Philip and Kingsley Manman made strong carries but their efforts were contained by Hilltops.
Hilltops’ Michael Willie, Agonia Kario and David Felix made strong runs but they failed to convert their chances.
Handling errors from Brothers and Hilltops prevented both sides from completing their sets in key moments of the first half.
At the start of the second half, both teams improved their handling as they went about trying to gain momentum.
But minutes from full time, luck was with Brothers’ who claimed victory.
Dami, who is also the Brothers coach, said they were making the most of their first season in the competition.
“We stuck to our game plan and that’s what got us the win. I’m expecting a repeat of our team’s effort in our next match,” Dami said after their win against the Hilltops.
