THE inclusion of District Development Authority (DDA) performance reports in the recent 2016 Leaders’ Summit was a good decision by the Office of the Chief Secretary to Government.

These reports can be considered as the National Government’s key performance indicator (KPI) as the majority of our people are rural based.

The Government’s focus should be on improving the people’s livelihoods so that they too can see and feel that development is taking place all around them.

The DDA reports should not portray only the achievements but cover all sectors of development, both in government and business that impacts the districts and local level governments.

Maybe a separate summit should be convened by Office of Rural Development so that each of the 89 DDAs are given the opportunity to present their performance reports.

This will indeed make DDAs more transparent as their plans and objectives become more visible to the people, hence enabling a natural check and balance on the system.

Congratulations to the selected 10 DDAs who will be telling their stories at the Leaders’ Summit.
