DDA threat to levels of established govt: Powi

THE intention of the Government in establishing the District Development Authorities is good but it is likely to disintegrate the unity and established levels of government.
Southern Highlands Governor William Powi said if the DDA were not managed properly then there would be 89 mini governments focused on service, that would distort national unity through disintegration of governance and service delivery in the country.
Speaking during the presentation of the K298.34 million 2019 SHP budget on Friday to the Treasurer Charles Abel, Powi said the DDAs must work in partnership and within the framework of service delivery and governance, the provincial governments and the provincial administrations in the country.
Powi said in his province he wants to partner with the DDAs but there were issues with the DDAs that was bad for the country.
“I’m seeing the DDAs, if not managed properly, we will have mini 89 district governments that is service centre focused, and they will distort national unity,” he said.
“The strength of this nation depends on the strengths of the institutions we have so we should not disintegrate governance.”
