A FATHER-of-three was murdered at Bemal village in Transgogol, Madang, on Monday, police say.
Madang police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the killing was a payback for an incident last September.
Jack Mimau, of Bemal village, was returning from Madang town when he was attacked at Gali Gap, Jopto. Supt Rubiang said in retaliation, his relatives went to Jopto and burnt down homes.
“The main murder suspect is believed to be one of the village leaders,” he said. Supt Rubiang said police had set up checkpoints near the area last week but did not catch any suspect.
He said they tried to assist in mediation but because of the heavy rain, they left.
Supt Rubiang said police would continue to patrol the section of the road.
