Defence Force starts planning renovation of living quarters

THE PNG Defence Force has started arrangements into the refurbishment of the army’s living quarters at Murray Barracks, Port Moresby.
Acting secretary for Defence Trevor Meauri said renovations would start on the married and single soldiers’ quarters at PNGDF Force Support Battalion (FSB), Murray Barracks.
Meauri visited the quarters on Monday accompanied by commanding officer FSB Colonel Kingsley Wawada and second in-charge Major Peter Ikau.
Directions was given to Garrison Engineering (GE) – FSB to identify houses that needed urgent maintenance to be given priority.
Meauri visited GE FSB to identify capabilities and storages as equipment and materials were expected to be purchased in the coming weeks.
After taking office in 2017, the Defence Council made commitments to refurbish the living quarters.
Meauri said refurbishments commenced in 2018 and would continue this year for rebuilding and upgrading of key PNGDF military infrastructure including soldiers living quarters and messing facilities across all units and barracks.
He said from 2019 moving forward, the upgrading and rehabilitation of PNGDF units and barracks was his priority.
