A CANDIDATE for the Wau-Bulolo mayor’s seat in Morobe has raised concern about the delay in polling.

Tim Yontong said polling was scheduled to start last Saturday but was delayed for some unknown reasons.

Yontong said no reasons have been given by the provincial election manager or his officials for the delay.

“I am very disappointed about the delay,” Yongtong told The National from Bulolo.

“No explanations have been given and we are still in the dark.

“The delay puts extra burden on us as we will spend more funds to look after our supporters than we had initially budgeted for.”

Bulolo police station commander Timo Pomoso confirmed that there was no polling on Saturday.

Pomoso said he did not know the reason for the delay but they were still waiting for funds from the provincial administration to begin operations.

“There are already growing frustrations among candidates and their supporters,” he said.

“We are keeping a close eye to counter any problems that may arise.”

Several attempts to get comments from provincial election manager Simon Sinai were unsuccessful.
