EAST New Britain acting provincial administrator Wilson Matava has directed district administrators to effectively use all environmental health officers and make public health programmes their core business.

Matava issued the directive yesterday in light of recent medical tests conducted in logging camps and nearby communities in West Pomio Mamusi area following a dengue fever scare, which was ruled out.

He was critical of the discharge of public health plans in the province, saying if confirmed, “such an outbreak will indicate a breakdown in public health”.

He said health officers deployed in LLGs must be used in public health programmes.
