Department plans to improve infrastructure in top performing schools

THE Department of National Planning and Monitoring has plans to support top performing schools in the country.
The department’s deputy secretary of public investment programme Roger Kara said in Port Moresby recently.
He said: “Education is a sector that challenges Government policies and the department is keen to support the policies by improving infrastructure in schools which is a major need for many.”
Kara told The National that it had partnered one of the top secondary schools in the country and had seen the outcome of the funding support.
He said when St Charles Lwanga Secondary School approached them with their project proposal, they made sure that the funding would be put to good use and was impressed to witness the opening of a new three-storey building that was built partly from the K500,000 allocated for the project.
“We will still support the school because right now, it has limited number of computers and would need more to facilitate computing lessons in the new computer lab oratory inside the new building,” he said.
Kara also commended the school administration for its transparent leadership and accountability in delivering a successful project and urged the school’s administration to maintain its relationship with donor partners.
He said St Charles Lwanga was known for good discipline and outstanding academic performance and so the department would be happy to support its future plans and provide financial help.
The school’s board of governor’s chairman Patrick Keanga thanked the department for its plans to continue the partnership.
He also commended the department on its plans to support other top schools in the country.
