A COMMUNITY Justice Service Centre (CJSC) will be built at Kandep in Enga to help minimise law and order issues there.
The design of the building was approved and a cheque for K400,000 was presented by Kandep MP Alfred Manase to the Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG) yesterday for the project to be rolled out.
Manase said that building a CJSC in Kandep was vital because the district had been struggling with a lot of law and order problems.
Kandep was the 12th partner in this initiative put forward by DJAG to build CJSCs in all 89 districts in the country so justice services could be delivered to the communities.
DJAG secretary Eric Kwa said justice services were present at the communities through the village courts but it was quite difficult to communicate and run programmes with magistrates, peace officers and clerks from the 1,680 village courts in the country so the initiative of CJSC was put forward.
“We realised that the gap was in the district. Now the people can access the CJSCs instead of going to the provinces,” Kwa said.
The building of the centres for the first 10 districts has started.
Kwa said that due to the current state of the country’s economy, DJAG would take up only two districts this year.
“If there is funding, then two more will be added.”
