THE Department of Community Development and Religion is hosting a two-day Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) and Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy (PPWE) Workshop and Expo for the Momase Region at 2-Mile in Lae starting Wednesday.
The idea of PPWE is for women to be part of the Apec business forum and started in 2011.
The theme of the workshop and expo is “Showcasing Business that promote our traditional culture with modern culture for economic growth”.
Youth Religion and Community Development Secretary Anna Solomon, who officiated at the opening at the City Gate Tabernacle Church Hall, said the expo was to showcase businesswomen in Morobe.
“This is the third workshop and expo,” she said.
“We held one for the New Guinea Islands last November, and two weeks ago, we held one for Southern.
“This is really about making women understand what Apec is, and how they can participate.
“Some women are sole operators in their district and province, others went abroad, but how can we use Apec to help them move to the next level?
“What do they need to know?
“What do they need to do?”
Solomon said the event brought together women from West Sepik, East Sepik, Madang and Morobe.
