Dept investigating Jiwaka plane crash

TRANSPORT and Civil Aviation Minister Walter Schnaubelt says the department is investigating the plane crash in Jiwaka on Thursday.
He is aware that four people, including a baby, were injured.
“Casa (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) and AIC (Accident Investigation Commission) are scrambling their teams to commence investigations into the cause of the crash,” he said.
He said the North Coast Aviation PAC 750-XL aircraft crashed around 11.30am on Thursday at the Giramben airstrip near the Christian Leaders Training College.
“I will keep you all updated when more information comes to hand,” he said.
Commission acting board chairman Captain Aria Bouraga said in a statement on Thursday that a full investigation would be conducted as required under the Act and in accordance with Annex 13 Convention on International Civil Aviation.
Attempts to contact North Coast Aviation for a comment about the incident were unsuccessful.
