THE Department for Community Development and Religion wants students to develop a habit of caring for the environment by launching an essay competition.
Winners will be announced during the Literacy Week in August with prizes of K1000 for students and K10,000 worth of computers, printer and encyclopedia for the school.
Isaac Maru, from the environment section within the department, said the department recognised this as a platform to provide initiatives that would minimise impacts on the environment and the teach the younger generations.
“We have a criteria by which students from grade 8 and above to be eligible for the competition,” Maru said.
“The students are encouraged to submit only one copy of the essay and must be the original work of the student and well researched.
“The essay will contain about 3000 words and all entries must be typed and printed and submitted to the environment section of the Department of Community Development and Religion.”
