NATIONAL Planning and Monitoring Minister Richard Maru wants to find out which sectors are creating value for the government and how they can be helped.
He said the department needed to know which sector was creating value and how the government could get involved.
“Economic growth is the number one priority of our government,” he said.
“I want to know what plans the management of sustainable sectors like cocoa, agriculture and fisheries have.
“Why should we give money to them if the industry is dying? We are paying all the executives (but) what’s happening to the industry?
“This department (Planning and Monitoring) must look at each sector now and see which is creating value and which is not.
“And the government must be informed on how to deal with them. Some sectors we don’t have an industry body like textile and cotton. What are we going to do in national planning?
“Do we keep importing?
“What are we going to do with all the talented people? What is the sector’s plan?
“Have we even started a sector body?
“There are so many gifted people out there.
“How many jobs can we create by getting involved in the sector?
“I want to know about all the sectors in the sustainable industries.
“Eighty per cent of our children cannot find jobs after grade 12.”
