THE Department of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change is committed to helping in organic wealth creation, the associated minister says.
Minister for Environment, Conservation and Climate Change Wera Mori told people in Benaarea, Unggai-Bena, in Eastern Highlands, yesterday, that the value of a tree that could be bought for K1 and planted, would be K4,000 to K5,000 in 10 to 20 years.
“That is adding value to trees and also planting trees to address climate change issues,” he said.
Under Mori’s leadership, the department will continue to plant more trees to create wealth through organic wealth.
He said over the next 10 years Eastern Highlands would plant 10 million trees to cover much of the grassland.
Unggai-Bena MP Benny Allan welcomed Mori and officials from the department to Unggai-Bena to launch tree-planting for Eastern Highlands.
He said the planting programme launched was not a mistake because they had so much grassland to cover with trees.
