LANDS and Physical Planning Minister John Rosso told Parliament yesterday that there were many cases of duplicated Incorporated Land Group (ILG) titles.
Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta queried claims of ILG titles being duplicated and Rosso said the lands department was aware of such cases. Haiveta raised the concern about ILGs following no proper processes being followed in resource development project areas.
He said all ILG registrations should follow the same process using the same piece of land for whatever resources being produced for the same landowner groups. Rosso said they were aware of cases of duplication of Incorporated Land Group tittles happening in communities.
“We have seen and known of cases of duplications of ILG titles and we are trying to get to the bottom of it.
“The Lands Department is aware of it and with assistance from advisers engaged by the Australian government, we are seeking advice on executing proper processes so we can fix the ILG issues.
“The matter of ILG duplication is very important and it is an issue that we need to address and we are working on it,” Rosso said.
