Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra says a large slice of this year’s budget allocation has not yet been received by his department.
He told a department heads’ meeting on Friday that his department had been allocated K953 million this year, of which it had received only K365 million.
“It’s about 38 per cent we’ve received already and we’re about halfway through the year,” Dr Kombra said.
“We’ve spent K334 million of what we’ve received – we’ve spent about 91 per cent which means we’ve only got nine per cent in our system.
“We have yet to receive K619 million, it’s about 65 per cent that we have yet to receive. Of what we’ve received, K272 million will be for tuition-fee free.”
