Dept yet to receive info on funding

THE Department of Implementation and Rural Development is yet to receive information on how much funding was allocated to each MP this year, secretary Aihi Vaki says.
He told The National that he was concerned that MPs might be allocated their service improvement programme (SIP) funding even if they had not acquitted.
“I am kept in the dark and I need to be informed on this,” Vaki said.
“We are mandated for the SIP programme and the constitutional grants, but this year, we couldn’t manage these funds because they had to go through the system.
“We are concerned that the funds are going through the system and it seems they are not acquitting the funds but they are still receiving them.
“They should pass on the release of this funds disbursement information to us so that we take shock of who received the funds,” he said.
“I need that information urgently and I need the support of departments that can help us to monitor these funds going down to the districts.”
Vaki said the department was responsible and it had done its part in helping the MPs and the districts and governors.
“We have been a part of the national audit inter-agency team headed by Department of Justice and Attorney-General and we would like that to happen in terms of monitoring and auditing.”
