Description of Ihu seen as insulting

Letters

CONGRATULATIONS Camillo Oraka Karahure, of Lese Kavora village, for being the worthy recipient of the Order of Logohu Award for services to the church and education in Gulf, including Ihu and Vailala in West Kerema.
In the interview, Karahure described the people of Ihu in 1955-1960 as “savages”, who killed their fellowmen and disposed the corpses in the Vailala River.
I am from Ihu – more specifically Vailala East village –and I find his description of Ihu people as “savages” mischievous, degrading and insulting.
Karahure certainly must have got his facts about timeline, place and people mixed up.
As a kid in the village, I knew the years 1955 and onwards very well.
There never was once an occasion in which I and the entire village witnessed dead bodies floating down the river and into the sea.
