Development of Ihu zone progressing

THE Ihu special economic zone (Isez) is now in stage two of its development, according to project director Peter KenGemar.
KenGemar said phase two involved key foundational programmes that would set the pace for other important development activities to be progressed.
The two programmes were a land mobilisation programme and environmental impact statement studies.
KenGemar said apart from Isez project development office, also considered were three other programmes which included:

  • SITE improvement in terms of access roads, telecommunication, power, an administrative centre, jetty and airstrip facilities;
  • SMALL-to-medium enterprise businesses baseline data gathering and training to enable migration of informal sector entrepreneurs to the formal sector; and,
  • MINI industries development to assist impacted and affected landowner SMEs to increase cash flow activities and expand business growth in preparation for active participation in major economic projects such as Isez industrial development and Papua LNG project.

KenGemar said the Isez project was funded by Kikori development authority from 2018 to 2020 under the chairmanship of MP Soroi Eoe.
He said the National Executive Council approved the project last year under and approved K100 million, being K20 million annually – K5 million for administrative purposes and K15 million for the project’s various programmes.
