THE Papua New Guinea Men’s Basketball league (PMBL) has named its senior men’s train-on squad for the National All Stars Championship to be held in Lae in December.
According to an email from the Basketball Federation of PNG, the national Under-17 youth championships will be held from Dec 15-17 before the senior tournament (Dec 18-20).
PMBL, the current national defending champions, named its 32-man train-on squad this week.
Interestingly, four development players have cracked into the senior men’s team for the first time since the inception of the youth team last year.
League general secretary Kevin Teme said it was important that some of the top junior players were named in the senior team as they were crucial to the growth of the game in the country.
He said the league had received only four names and still needed eight more top junior players to be nominated by coaches in their respective teams.
“We are urging the respective team managers or coaches to submit at least two names each for the top junior players to train with the senior players this month,” Teme said.
The four development players who made the senior men’s team were Eddie Moses (Flames), Harold Elavo Jr, Morea Elavo (Moni Plus) and Frank Kaisa (Birdwings).
All players assembled with coach Moi Muri and Boyet Daroya for their first training session yesterday.
