DIGICEL Cup grand finalist Stanford Talita says he will be making the most of next week’s Rugby League World Cup Nines in Sydney, Australia.
Despite being the only Digicel Cup player 16-man Papua New Guinea Kumuls squad, the Hela Wigmen centre is taking it in his stride and says that it is an honour to be among PNG’s best rugby league players.
“The feeling here is exciting because I’m with the big boys — the NRL and Intrust Super Cup players,” Talita told The National.
“I’m the only Digicel Cup player so it’s another feeling altogether for me.
“It’s a big opportunity and I am happy that I got called up to join the boys for the World Cup Nines.
“From watching them on TV to actually train with them, it feels good to be part of this team and play alongside them.
“At the end of the season, I reflected on my performances and I felt I put in a lot of hard work, which was good enough for the selectors.”
Talita said he was confident in the Kumuls’ experience and talent, which will help him prepare for the inaugural tournament.
“We started camp on Monday and we’re going to be here (in Port Moresby) for a week before we go down to Sydney.
“We just started training this week.
“But as the week progresses, I know the boys will psych themselves up for the tournament. We’ll go out there and give it our best.”

  • Our boys will be up against some big guns who have played high profile football in NRL so our boys must be mentally prepared. coach should emphasis more on this area so boys do not get defeat before entering the field. you can be small in size but psychology plays some very important role in such pressure situation. enough of traim traim toktok nabaut. We are already sick of this saying. Go out there and win. The nation will be watching and behind you. apo.. tru ave!

  • congratulation to Stanford Talita on behalf of Tari and Mendi people. you have made it to that level and its your pride and honor. we are on your side for support and other boys as well. go PNG LNG Kumul..

  • Nothing is impossible. Just get out there and have faith in yourselves and do not compete/compare with those high profile players. Don’t let yourselves defeated unless you are truly defeated.
