DIGICEL PNG senior vice-president Lorna McPherson has been awarded the Full-Time Reserve Award by Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) chairman Sandis Tsaka.
Tsaka said during the Digicel Cup awards night at the Oil Search National Football Stadium on Thursday that the award was in honour of McPherson’s contribution to rugby league in the country over the last 12 years.
Tsaka congratulated McPherson for her continued support to the code.
“The Full-Time Reserve Award is to recognise the people behind the scenes that keeps our competitions running and keeping rugby league alive,” Tsaka said.
“These are the people that make sacrifices so that the 17 players from all the franchises can take the field week in week out.
“Lorna came to PNG in 2007 but she was introduced to rugby league in 2009 when the company she was involved with started to sponsor the game.
“She was new to the sport and she started to learn the rules of the game. And from then on she is now a passionate rugby league fan and supporter.
“In my eight years as chairman of PNGRFL, I’ve worked very closely with her and she supports the game from grassroots level to schools level, to our local leagues to the Digicel Cup,” Tsaka said.
“She also throws her support behind the Kumuls, the Orchids and the Hunters as well.
“The investment and the passion she shows is why the game has gone to a different level today.”
