DIGICEL is warning its customers on fraud activities in the country with individuals trying to extort money or phone credits by sending spam messages to Digicel users.

The telco said this after its customers expressed concern over getting text messages notifying them of big windfall wins.

Customers claimed they were requested to send some amount of Digicel credits to the message sender before being issued a number to call and claim their prizes.

The telco said: “Digicel is aware that certain individuals aiming to extort money or phone credits are sending spam messages and creating false hopes among Digicel customers.

Digicel advises customers who suspect they have received a scam message to contact its  customer call centre on 123 for guidance.

The phone company responded  to winners of its promotional draws through direct calls, which should appear on handset as 7222 2000 or 72222222.

Digicel would never ask for cash or credits of any kind for the win.

It  had an ongoing campaign, advising the public of these scams through awareness drive.
