OGO Ura Dika beat KB Drive 11-9 to bag the inaugural Mahuru JT Cup netball tournament final in the National Capital District last Thursday.
National women’s netball team assistant coach Oti Sarufa volunteered to help oversee the tournament and identify potential talents.
In a low-scoring game due to time factor, both teams played for only 10 minutes in each half.
In the semifinals, Ogo beat Ugabega 14-11 and KB Drive won on technical grounds after Koura walked off the court while trailing 2-7 with six minutes remaining.
Tournament officials awarded the win to KB Drive after Koura refused to complete the match.
In the final, the first half ended with a 3-3 scoreline due to silly errors especially in the mid-court.
It was in the second half that Ogo’s better attacking and defence allowed them to subdue KB Drive.
Ogo goal shooter Alice Udia and goal attack Biai Sale capitalised on their height advantage to net crucial points to win the match.
Mahuru JT Cup coordinators Mal Udia and Rabura Maraga commended all the teams and officials for their cooperation during the tournament.
Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko backed the event with K10,000.
