FORMER Papua New Guinea Barramundis captain, Rarua Dikana was named as the Cricket PNG’s interim head coach for the national side after the resignation of Peter Anderson.

Dikana takes up the role and is straight into action as he prepares to depart with the Hebou Garamuts who will be participating in their seventh Under-19 World Cup appearance which will take place in United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Dikana brings a wealth of coaching experience as he has coached the East-Asia Pacific team for the last two years.

He has also been the assistant coach for the Hebou Barras since stepping down as national captain in 2011.

Following his role with the Garamuts, he will then take the Barramundis to their two week tour of Sri Lanka at the end of March. With the Barras gaining ODI status, the amount of cricket to be played will increase with more tours to be confirmed over the coming months.

Dikana was optimistic he would continue the good work Peter Anderson had done over the last two years.

“We’re sad to see Peter leave as he has done a great job since joining Cricket PNG. He’s left a big gap and I have big shoes to fill. Big challenge ahead but I’m confident I’ll be able to continue the good work Peter has done,” Dikana said.

“The game is about the players so I will ensure that I will do as much as I can to get the most out of the boys. Exciting times ahead for Cricket PNG and I’m looking forward to maintaining the standard set by Peter.”
